How to Balance Work, Family, and Fitness for Life

Art Trapotsis

Put fitness into practice with this balance-driven guide from cyclist, CEO, and coach Art Trapotsis.

Do the demands of your career, family, and life constantly sabotage your efforts to improve your fitness? Exercise is vitally important for good health, but it usually takes a back seat when life becomes busy. You might prioritize your work and family relationships out of what seems like necessity, but before you realize it, your fitness goals are pushed aside and you feel stressed out and unbalanced. The bright side? It doesn't have to be that way.

In The Everyday Athlete, Art Trapotsis—father, husband, CEO, and endurance athlete—shares:

  • How fitness is the most important—and often overlooked—ingredient to finding balance in life

  • How to develop and nourish a fitness mindset and make exercise a consistent part of your routine

  • Methods and best practices to get fitter without jeopardizing your relationships or career

Current, former, and future athletes of all kinds, from seasoned competitors to weekend warriors, will find useful tools for improving fitness along with work-life balance. The included “KIT Quiz” offers a gut check on your current balance and tips for how you can improve it. Whether you’re training for a major event, reviving your fitness routine, or starting fresh, you’ll find motivation and inspiration from the author’s personal stories and unique approach for squeezing fitness into a busy life, thereby creating balance. Everyone can be an athlete, every day.

Reviews

“Three words: expert, encouraging, and actionable. Reading The Everyday Athlete is like having a knowledgeable and compassionate friend give it to you straight, show you the ropes, and then cheer you on to go a little further or get a little more balanced than you were yesterday. Whether we’re just now thinking about fitting fitness into an already busy life or we’re needing to get our fitness goals in check, Art inspires each of us to achieve our greater purpose in life by showing us how to ‘Keep It Tight.’” —Julie Quinne, leadership strategist and creator of the Uncommon Method

“Fitness and the making of it as a daily part of a healthy life can sound like a drag to some, but not the way Art tells it—practical, well-practiced, full of story and perseverance. This book helps you navigate the challenges of balancing work, life, and family, while giving new meaning, purpose, and confidence to the very things that make you a true athlete and a better person. You will enjoy this book, and it will enlighten your life.” —J. D. Hale, vice president, Yankee Magazine; founder, Rippers Cycling Club

“A powerful and pithy call to pump new life into your regular routine. His book is primarily about exercise, but he also wants to stress that the strategies he imparts about self-awareness and the give-and-take of healthy relationships can apply equally well to work and family situations. He breaks down his information in clear, readable prose and effectively deploys stories from his own life to illustrate his points. These tactics combine to create a vigorously encouraging plea for self-reinvention.” Kirkus Reviews

The Everyday Athlete is a powerful guide for helping make connections between consistent fitness and everyday emotional triggers most people may not be aware of. It uncovers the invisible forces that disrupt our sense of balance while providing a road map for how even the busiest people can establish it or reclaim balance.”
—Chris Getman, director of digital marketing, Vital Design

The Everyday Athlete is a fantastic playbook for those seeking balance among family, work, and fitness. Art nailed so many of the exact scenarios I have faced over the years that I was often left thinking he was writing about me. From finding one’s stride after college athletics to balancing exercise with father time now, this book offers common sense tactics I wish I had known sooner and ones I’ll be using going forward. This book provides great insights for me as a CEO on ways I can create an even-more supportive work environment for the Everyday Athlete.” —Eric Schenker, CEO, Craft Sportswear North America
