Girl Friday Productions is a women-led book production company and publisher committed to high-quality books and transformative client relationships. Our team publishes authors in a range of genres through GFB and Flashpoint Books hybrid programs and provides indie authors with the care and caliber of a traditional publishing program. We also partner with established publishers to provide distinctive editorial and design production for their lists. Who You Are
You are a dynamic and enthusiastic book lover eager to support our in-house publishing managers with trade and industry book production. You juggle a lot but rarely drop balls because you have rock-solid project management skills. Working independently and as part of a team on diverse tasks, you are an excellent communicator with an innate understanding of who needs to know what when. You’re curious and open to learning new best practices and you actively seek them out. You’re excited about the idea of bringing your skills to a small, people-first company that is committed to their team’s well-being. And, at the end of the day, you love a good book just as much as we do.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Editorial Assistant will work closely with our publishing managers; our design, marketing, and editorial departments; and clients to effectively produce and publish book projects. GFP Publishing Managers guide authors through the publishing process, step by step, to produce beautiful books with top-quality editing and design. Specifically, the Editorial Assistant’s duties include:
Assisting our in-house publishing management team in the creation of editorial production schedules.
Helping publishing managers in the creation of back cover copy and other promotional text for a wide range of fiction and nonfiction titles.
Assisting in the creation of advance reader copies.
Reviewing e-book files for quality assurance.
Setting up title records and metadata on publishing platforms for the GFB imprint.
Other production-related administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Interest in book publishing; previous book editing or publishing paid work or internship preferred
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Creative thinker and troubleshooter
Works well with a variety of individuals and projects confidence and respect
Ability to manage a variety of projects with multiple priorities and deadlines
Trade editorial experience, including knowledge of Chicago style
Conversant in a wide variety of software programs and technologically adept
Collaborative, self-driven working style
Results-oriented
Education and Experience
AA or BA; degree in related field preferred
Demonstrated communication skills—both internally and externally, written and verbal
Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail and excellent follow-through

Must be able to work well under pressure and against shifting deadlines
Reports to the Manager of the Publishing Management Team but works closely with the Editorial, Design, and Marketing teams along with some direct author interactions

Job Location: Girl Friday is based in Seattle, WA but this job is open for remote work for individuals living only in the following states: Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Minnesota, or New York. Salary range 45-50K DOE plus benefits.
